High speed resin-bonded grinding wheels for fettling

Phoenix Abrasive fettling wheels are available in sizes to suit all applications

Floor stand and swing frame machines

These large wheels are typically between 400 x 50 x 150mm and 915 x 100 x 304.8mm. Phoenix manufacturing expertise has developed a robust wheel to encounter some of the most demanding requirements in this industry sector. Phoenix market leadership in this market segment sets the standards of performance.

Portable Fettling Wheels

These wheels are especially designed to withstand the most punishing applications asked for them. Often used to remove moulding lines and flashes on foundry products and heavy metal fabrications. Wheels are produced in diameters of 100, 150 and 200mm to suit all portable machines and their fixings.

Inserted Nut Cones + Plugs

Sometimes referred to as “Pot Ball” these inserted nut cones are extensively used in foundries and metal producing plants. They are tough and durable to withstand the rigours of application and are available in a full range of sizes and grades. Phoenix Cones and Plugs are manufactured with blinds threaded holes and are extensively used in foundries and forges. They are tough and durable to withstand the rigors of application.

Roll Grinding Wheels

From the range of abrasive products there is one universally recognised leader ‘Phoenix Starlite’. Steeped in history and experience this range of Roll Grinding wheels provides an abrasive solution for all roll grinding applications.

The ‘Phoenix-Starlite’ wheels will be found throughout the world grinding long, large diameter rolls in steel and aluminium rolling mills, paper mills, rubber and plastic processing plants. Employing up-to-date abrasive technology, wheel grades are formulated using a proven range of soft, medium or hard bond structures – Organic or Shellac.

Abrasive grit combinations of Aluminium Oxide, Silicon Carbide and Ceramic grains are selected for optimum wheel performance given the parameters of Roll finish requirements. Roll grinding wheels incorporating the higher cost ceramic grain will produce a marked improvement in productivity and G-ratios. End users report longer wheel life and the capability to rough and finish with the same wheel.

Fine Grit Products

Phoenix Abrasives speciality is the production of organic bond abrasive wheels and within this section of the bonded abrasive market has particular expertise in the manufacture of Fine Grit wheels, sticks and blocks for precision grinding operations.

Strict quality control procedures are adhered to in the making of fine grit products. Manufacture is undertaken within a controlled environment to avoid coarse grit contamination as these wheels incorporate micro grits from 180grit through to 1000grit. Depending upon the grinding / polishing finish required the wheel will be made either cold pressed, warm or hot pressed.

Phoenix produce a wide range of end use products fine grit wheels . For example, blade- edge polishing, medical needles, automotive, aerospace and other specialist industries. Phoenix also manufacture an extensive range of abrasive sticks and blocks.

Segmental Surface Grinding

Vertical or horizontal spindle machines fitted with resin bonded abrasives segments are the optimum method of achieving a heavy, fast and economical way of stock removal.
The number of segments per set is dependant on the overall diameter of the segmental arrangement and the capacity of the machine. Segments are produced in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit the design of the machine. – Lumsden, Churchill, Snow H1/H2, B1/B2 1C/2C Gockle and many other shapes.

Nut Inserted & Plated Wheels

Type 35: Cemented or clamped Disc, Type 36: Inserted Nut Disc & Type 37: Inserted disc Cylinder are produced for the following grinding machines; Bennett’s, Diskus and Giustina for wheels within the diameter range 200mm to 915mm with various nut patterns for grinding: Springs, Cylinder heads, Brake Discs, Piston Rings, Valves, Bearing races, Bearing roller end, Pliers, spanners and sockets.

These organic bond wheels made at the Manchester factory using tough, premium abrasive with a superior organic resin bond system produce wheels delivering the benefits of high “G” ratios and are excellent for heavy duty grinding as they are more forgiving than the vitrified bond counterparts. Resin bond wheels are ideal for stock removal, long irregular components and faster through feed grinding

Abrasive Compounds

C Series = SILICON CARBIDE. Fast cutting and suitable for all hardened steels where a rolling and sliding action perform the lapping.

K Series = ALUMINIUM OXIDE. Suitable for soft steels where lapping is performed by a rolling action and also suitable for other metals where lapping is carried out by a rolling action.

H Series = ALUMINIUM OXIDE – SOFT. The finer grits provide a smooth action with minimum stock removal and more of a polishing agent.

2A Series = ALUMINIUM OXIDE – VERY SOFT. The very fine grits deliver a polished finish with no stock removal.
